I nearly threw the entire thing out the window. Dear Lord, but that was an exercise in aggravation: I couldn’t find a way to express the problem in a way that Google Search could understand, and the software company (which I was an actual paying customer of, mind) sent me to the automated help desk. …Fortunately, the email I got in return to my gritted-teeth ticket solved the problem in about five minutes, which is good. Really, really good.
On the bright side, I now know how to pull the files that I might need off of my backed up hard drive, so there’s that.
