#rsrh Today is Victims of Communism Day over at The Volokh Conspiracy.

And now, here at MoeLane.com, too.  As everybody reading this knows, I despise Communism as only a former Democratic hawk raised in a Jacksonian, working-class tradition during the end of the Cold War can despise those murderous sons of bitches.  I stood up and cheered when we finally dragged out the Soviet Union out into the sunlight and watched it bubble and scream.  And if I’m very lucky, I’ll get to see that happen to the People’s Republic of China, too. So I’m happy to join in.

Anyway.  Marxism is intellectualism for stupid people.  It doesn’t work, never has worked, and never will work.  Commies can’t even consistently grow enough crops to feed themselves properly.  And the entire thing would be funny if it weren’t for the heaped-up piles of corpses…

Happy May Day! Hope you don’t get purged.

  1. The pro-commies were out in force on that web page comments. I love how they continue to claim that the Russians and Chinese are not “real” commies therefore communism cannot be blamed for all these deaths.

  2. Not to argue with anything else in your post, but as I understand it, Communism in China died out some time ago. The regime is now a thugocracy, not concerned with marxist or socialist goals, but tenaciously hanging onto power using the forms inherited from the communist state, concerned mainly with enriching themselves and their cronies. The last bastions of Communism are Cuba, North Korea, and western universities.

  3. What’s the difference between communism and a thugocracy? That one can come up with better excuses for the horrors it inflicts?

  4. Thugocracy is an authoritarian government that, while criminal in nature, doesn’t kill the goose laying the golden eggs. Communists kill all economic activity, thereby killing the goose. It’s the difference between Mao’s Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution, and Deng’s “do not care if the cat is black or white, what matters is it catches mice”.

  5. I would certainly like to see China’s government collapse, and what with their demographic problems I expect that it will do so, though I’m not sure I will live to see it. I was only quibbling with calling it Communist, when I doubt the majority of China’s rulers believe in Marxism/Leninism/Maoism anymore.
