What to take away from the debunking of MSNBC’s fake Romney WaWa ‘scandal.’

Background: Mitt Romney made a campaign speech today that used the WaWa convenience store franchise’s touch screen sandwich menu feature to make the point of how more cool and efficient the private sector is, when compared to the government.  MSNBC doctored the clip to make it look like Romney was merely astounded that we have touch screen sandwich menus now*.  Lots of people called MSNBC out on itHijinks are now going to ensue.

It’s all going to go entertainingly bad for MSNBC (and every enthusiast that uncritically believed the aforementioned doctored clip); and yes, I’m sure that everybody reading this is all broken up about that, too.  But that’s not the point!  You know what the point is?  It’s that… do you know WHY people were able to debunk the story just in time for it to embarrassingly explode all over MSNBC?  It’s because somebody in the audience was recording the speech.

WHAT I TELL YOU THREE TIMES IS TRUE: ALWAYS KEEP A VIDEO CAMERA WITH YOU WHEN YOU ATTEND A POLITICAL EVENT. ALWAYS KEEP A VIDEO CAMERA WITH YOU WHEN YOU ATTEND A POLITICAL EVENT. ALWAYS KEEP A VIDEO CAMERA WITH YOU WHEN YOU ATTEND A POLITICAL EVENT.

ALWAYS.

  1. actually a more disgusting and dishonest edit-job than the one they did on zimmerman that led to some firings.

    IOW:

there needs to be some serious disciplining over at nbc news and some more firings.

  2. The other point has to go back to your rules for republicans, the press hates us and wants us to die. MSNBC though they could get away with doctoring the tape so they wanted to make Romney look out of touch.

  3. Note to MSNBC, The world has changed Suckers! Either you catch up Fast or you Die! You’ll Deserve it!

  4. Why doesn’t the campaign record every single second of every single speech and put it up on the campaign website? Transparency and media accountability, two great tastes that taste great together.

  5. ANdrea Mitchell demonstrated that she’s a contemptible crapweasel by her behavior in the Valerie Plame affair. This latest bit of chicanery doesn’t surprise me in the least.

How much do you want to bet that she’ll be one of the “impartial journalists” moderating the Obama-Romney debates?
