I got sent something via email that included this:
The BioLite Wood Burning Campstove is basically a stove the size of a water bottle that recharges your USB devices. That is so going on the Wish List for Pennsic; I don’t need it, but in terms of sheer swank it’s totally worth it. My wife thinks that a solar panel array is more efficient, of course – and, sure, the Goal Zero 41001 Switch 8 Silver/Black Solar Recharging Kit is also pretty dang cool. But a wood-burning USB charger sounds like it’d be useful under more conditions.
How very….steampunk.
At least buy the kettle to go with it, the grill attachment is also tempting.
.
What i want to know is how they manage to insulate the electronics from that much heat is such a small package
At a guess, the space joining the metal firebox and the yellow cylinder is pretty much a solid brick of peltier thermoelectric material, i.e. not much heat gets through.
.
Note also that the USB plug (and, therefore, what is presumably the main board for the device) is located low and far from the heat ..
.
Looks like it should work, although I’d wager you wouldn’t want to use it as your only stove since the insulation cannot be perfect…

I would call this “cool”, but …

Thank you for posting this, Moe!

I’ve long wanted to test one, but the price point ($130) is outside my budget for gadgetry.
.
However, if you do get one, I invite you to write a review of it for my prepping blog.
*If* I get one? Sure. I’m not exactly expecting to acquire one any time soon, mind you. 🙂
