The ‘The Crown’ trailer.

I’m putting this up not so much for the show itself…

…but to note that the devolution of power from the Crown to Parliament is an interesting story, full of exceptions, curiosities, and at least three big, gaping holes that could theoretically allow an ambitious monarch to take over the whole thing and actually become the ruler of Great Britain. I don’t think that that will happen any time soon, mind you.  But a lot of Parliamentary supremacy is based on convention, and not actual law.

The whole thing would make for a pretty good technothriller, in fact. Especially if the Crown won in the end. That’d be a twist.

    The Convention of Common Law may not be codified, but if the Monarch tried anything drastic wouldn’t people become quite… put out?

    1. Indeed. But that’s what makes it a cracking good yarn. Darn you Moe, now I’ve got a story seed in my head, and I haven’t even finished the outline of the one I’m working on!
