Zack Snyder not expecting another trip to the JUSTICE LEAGUE well.

Color me shocked. I gotta be honest, because it’s safe for me to say this, now: …why are we getting the Snyder Cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE? I’m looking forward to it, you understand. I got HBO Max just so I could watch it, although it turns out that my wife is happily chewing through all the animated DC stuff right now and my kids are down with Ben 10, so it all worked out fine — but I can’t quite figure how and why the suits decided to let Snyder take the movie apart and put it back together again.

Ach, well, maybe this is the universe where that particular million-to-one shot paid off. Don’t expect it to happen again, either. Because I dunno how they’re getting their money back.

  1. A combination of things I think.
    1) Streaming service trying to gain market share. HBO Max is trying to draw people to it when the market already has lot of other services. Spectacle always draws eyeballs.

    2) Unique situation. I never saw the first go round of the Justice League, but I cannot think of another movie that got made this way. Essentially they remade a movie after it was already shot in order to completely change the tone and storyline. They made a dogs breakfast of it -which is no guarantee that the original was good, but allows them to essentially rerelease a completely different movie. They already essentially made two different movies, so the money is already mostly spent, they just have to finish off the original one.

    3) Benefiting from Disney. Disney has done one whole hell of a lot to essentially set everything it owns on fire in order to satisfy a small group of people who hate the brands it produces. These people hate both comic books and Star Wars, and so instead of NOT WATCHING OR READING THEM, they instead want to change them into something that they still will not watch or read, but I am not even sure any of this is about that- it is about destroying something people love. However, they are the wrong people, so it must be done. That is where we are at right now. All this to say, since DC is the only other game in town, and Disney just keeps spitting in the face of the genre lovers, DC benefits- as long as they do not screw it up.

    1. Yeah, but if they’re pandering to ME specifically then I have a list. Starting with a bunch of Tim Powers novels that would make great miniseries.
