Background here: Governor Bev Perdue (D, NC) was talking specifically about cancelling 2012’s Congressional elections, but you get the feeling that cancelling, say, some gubernatorial ones would be a mitzvah in her eyes. Anyway, my take? Well, if I were a governor polling this badly for the last year and not really expecting things to change anytime soon then I might be inclined to endorse putting off as many elections as I could.

No, wait, I wouldn’t, at that. I’m a Republican. We don’t do that sort of [expletive deleted].
I wonder how much the state has to pay the staffer that reminds her to breathe…?
As a commenter, I can be a total VRWC nut and say: Obama is thinking about this very thing. There is NO WAY the narcissistic, arrogant, messiah-complex POTUS gives up power. He and his team are thinking of how to circumvent or cancel the 2012 election.
I don’t see the Dems getting away with it, as much as they may be tempted….

I was driving through Colorado mid-2008 and some radical lefty was on the radio saying Bush-Cheney had a secret plan to ignore the 2008 election. This was on the radio.
On the larger issue of cancelling elections: I actually get what she’s driving at, but it’s simply the wrong answer.
I understand Peter Orzag is on the bandwagon with her now, too?
