Via AoSHQ Headlines: turns out that Connecticut’s new governor Dannel Malloy (D) is not exactly the swiftest in the pack when it comes to first-response to natural disaster. As you probably remember, the Northeast was hit by a freak snowstorm on the weekend of October 29th: depending on which report you read, somewhere between 116,000 and 300,000 Connecticut residents remain without power, ten days later. But, fortunately, they’ve got a governor who’s there to… well, read.
The person who has taken the brunt of the public scorn is [Connecticut Light & Power’s] president and chief operating officer, Jeffrey D. Butler. He has been appearing with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy at daily news briefings, but he was left to face a grilling by the media on his own Thursday night when the governor left the room after criticizing the slow pace of power restoration.
Bolding mine. Maybe I’m just used to having governors like Bobby Jindal or Chris Christie take a pro-active response to disaster situations. Or perhaps it’s just that I don’t remember Malloy’s predecessor Jodi Rell (R) ducking out from hard questions in the aftermath of the 2009 and 2010 blizzards. Then again, neither of those events turned out to be quite as much of a rolling disaster for Connecticut as this latest storm is promising to be.
Gee. I wonder if there’s a causal relationship, there?

Unless there’s a particular government-related reason for the slow restoration of service, I don’t see the beef.

However, that’s entirely possible, because I’m pretty sure there are some “gypsy line trucks” hanging out here in Cincy that *would* roll out to Connecticut if they saw a buck in it. If there’s a state law/regulation preventing the utility from paying enough to bring the extra workers in…
