Bottom Line: Obama did not change the dynamic, and Obama does not change the momentum in Romney’s favor.
I’d hold off on judgment for a couple of days. Remember how many people proclaimed that the first debate was a draw, shortly after it was over? I think Candy Crowley will have done Barack Obama no favors with her blatant partisanship. I think (and hope) that viewers saw how she propped up Obama, and will conclude that he needed to be propped up.
One comment I saw elsewhere is telling: Barack Obama is very earnest about all the good things he intends to do, if only we elect him president.
Regarding “roughish”: You could also just say it was animated by John Kricfalusi, and is to his usual “standards” (i.e., gross)
