…they’re doing a remake of Colossus: The Forbin Project.
It’s been a while since we last heard news of the Will Smith-starring remake of the 1970 evil computer film Colossus: The Forbin Project, but we’re excited to hear about the latest talent brought onboard. Ed Solomon, the screenwriter who co-wrote the Bill & Ted movies (and the TV series) and penned Men in Black, will be rewriting the movie’s script.
This actually may not suck. Smith is a fairly-obvious closet Golden Age SF nerd (you don’t keep starring in movies like I Am Legend or Independence Day or Wild Wild West or I, Robot if you aren’t vulnerable to a certain kind of pitch); the scriptwriter has legitimate chops; and while the concept of a self-aware super-computer running amok may be hokey, it is at least not more noticeably hokey now than it was when it was made the last time around.
None of which means that this movie will not suck; simply that it does not have to.

Eh. Most of the early sci-fi was just horror with technology in the role of the boogeyman… instead of The Mummy, it’s Frankenstein’s Monster or Giant Robot…
.
This, though .. well, I hope it’s better than http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113957/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

AI as an antagonist?
Wait? This isn’t the Matrix?
Ok, it’ll probably suck, especially since I can’t remember the last movie the Fresh Prince was in that DIDN’T suck. Might’ve been Ind Day.
Why does no one want to make All The Troubles Of The World? That would make a great movie.
