Yes, Good God, of course it is a temptation. But I got the kids’ grammar school experience to consider. Just because you have to face a tiger when it’s menacing your kids doesn’t mean that you have to let one out of its cage in order to create that scenario.

Fortunately, at this level we’re doing OK. My eldest kid’s teacher is fanatical about phonics, and I suspect that she’s a little pleasantly surprised to have parents as insistent on respecting teachers and doing homework as my wife and I are.
