His alt-text sermonizing on marriage is a bit much, I’ll say.
To be fair, it’s John Kellogg’s sermonizing. I think that the point of the whole thing is not about whether any of these people were *wrong* – I happen to agree with a lot of what those folks were writing, and I expect that Munroe does, too – but whether our modern complaints about society are anything *new.* Which they’re not, but a lot of people think that they are. 🙂
I read it as more a failure, on the part of the whiners, to recognize the role of human nature.
Instead, they were blaming some new technological or sociological shift for .. well .. for humans being humans.

Missing, in other words, the corrolary to Solomon’s point about there being nothing new under the sun… when you think you see something new, look again.
