No, not that researchers have been underestimating the number of polar bears….
Researchers with the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group (PBSG) recently admitted to experienced zoologist and polar bear specialist Susan Crockford that the estimate given for the total number of polar bars in the Arctic was simply a qualified guess given to satisfy public demand.
…everybody kind of knew that already. No, what’s shocking is that it made Fark. Under the ‘Obvious’ tag, no less. Not that Fark’s commenters are particularly prepared to accept said tag…

As people become more urbanized they develope more and more unrealistic ideas about wild animals. They really have no idea what’s walking around in their yard when the sun goes down. This area is crawling with Fox, I’ve seen a Bobcat within a mile of my house and a Lynx within 5 miles. But people expect the wild animals to stay in the wildlife areas as if it’s a frigging zoo. So of course some idiots think there’s someone who actually wanders around counting polar bears and that the bears stay where they are supposed to be so they can be counted.
And of course, none of the media outside the conservative blogs are even going to mention this.
And there is a beaver in the pond in the middle of our office complex. Between the billing services and the credit union HQ buildings.
It was warmer in the 13th Century than today. That leads me to one of two conclusions: either that polar bears survived the heat or that they have evolved since then. I am going with Door #!.
