I really don’t get why people like having smart phones (granted there is a conveinence factor), seriously I think people are getting too hooked on these things. I actually use a much older cell phone, it has some drawbacks, but I really don’t like the idea of having a ton of personal information on a portable device that could be stolen.
Then don’t put personal information on it.
It’s not like the phone is going to acquire it by osmosis. You can deny any permissions requested. And if you root it, you have a number of options beyond the basics.
.
I have a smartphone.
It’s occasionally handy to be able to look something up on the fly. I sit in waiting rooms often enough to make having a Kindle app and a couple of games handy a very good thing. And it’s kind of nifty to have a good amount of music available if you’re going to be taking a long drive.
But anyone who is “hooked” on the things, is so, because they want to be so. There’s no obligation to connect it to your facebook account, check it incessantly, use a bluetooth headset, or any of the other ways people are commonly annoying with them. It’s a tool. No more, no less.
So want.

garfieldjl – I just want a camera that can upload pictures of the kids to a site for all the relatives to see. And not be an Apple product.
You can set up Android phones to do just that. And the Dropbox app would be a good place to save them.
I do have a 3 year old Motorola smartphone that I’m longing to replace, hence the Amazonlust 🙂
I invested in a Moto X myself a few months back and have been happy with the end result.
I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

Wow. Here’s a smartphone advocate that deserves to be pummeled. (Not advocating it, just noting it.) http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/compost/wp/2014/06/19/millennials-are-right-voice-mails-are-terrible/
