Tweet of the Day, PotUS Is A Man-Killing Job edition.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: a President will effectively age a decade for every four year term.

I wouldn’t take that job if St. Peter descended from Heaven with a signed request by God to do so.

  1. I agree with the thesis, but most of those photos don’t back it up. Lincoln, absolutely. George W. Bush, totally. None of the rest are that clear. George H. W. Bush, Carter and Ford only served 4 years and don’t look very different in those shots. Reagan was 70 when he first got in and 78 when he was done and looked it. Clinton lost weight and his hair went white which was normal for a man his age. Same for Obama.

    1. Mens’ hair can go grey rather quickly, once it starts to change. I had a friend in college who started to go grey before he graduated, and he was completely whit by the time he was 28. For that matter, look at Steve Martin.

Most of Clinton’s changes occurred after his heart surgery, which was several years after he left office.

  2. Obama’s been campaigning / vacationing for six years, where’s the stress?

However, if you were a narcissistic sociopath, you’d take the job in a heartbeat. You can avoid a huge amount of stress by going on frequent vacations, playing a lot of golf, and not taking positions on issues. It’s also helpful to make a scapegoat of your predecessor.

    1. This is one of the key flaws with our system… The only ones who get the top job are the ones who are ….egotistically flawed enough … to believe they should have it.

      1. Have you read Arthur C. Clarke’s novel Imperial Earth? By the year 2276, the President of the United States is chosen by lottery from the pool of citizens who — according to rigorous psychological examination — genuinely do not want the job.

        1. I haven’t read that one, far as I recall anyway, but it isn’t a unique thought…

  4. I view this more as a “see what your god-king Barack gives up for you?” melded with the groundwork for a “the country is ungovernable” post-office excuse.
