So, I early-voted today.

Largely because I’d rather do it now than do it next week with two kids in tow (thank you, Maryland state government, for giving the kids two days off for Election Day).  Straight GOP ticket, of course; where there wasn’t a Republican listed I wrote in my own name.  I’ll go down swinging, thank you kindly.

However… interestingly, when I asked the election judges how the early voting was going they said it was actually pretty busy: on par, in fact, with a Presidential year.  This being Maryland, where the only ostensibly competitive race on my ballot was the county executive one*… that’s kind of surprising, really.  And, try as I might: I can’t figure out how that could be bad for the GOP, either.  I mean, again: it’s Maryland.

  1. I hope you checked the ballot to make sure it was recording your votes for Republican (assuming it was a machine).

I believe I saw an article about Maryland voting machines switching Republican votes to Democrat.

    1. Yes, I did, because I saw the same article. Do have to say: the people who actually run the elections in my county are unfailingly polite, friendly, and diligent. I’ve never had a problem or seen any shenanigans.

      1. That’s surprising, I’ve been to Maryland before (granted it was near DC) and people could tell I wasn’t from the area because I was too polite.

  2. I always go the day of the election, just to get a pulse on things. As far as I know, there aren’t any partisan elections that have no Republicans, maybe I’ll write you in for Mayor of Austin, since as far as I can tell, the candidates run the political spectrum from Stalin to Trotsky.

At least this year I can actually vote for the Republican in the House, now that I’m no longer in SOPA Smith’s district.

    1. I am in a sufficiently .. partisan stronghold .. area that my votes don’t count and nobody bothers to do exit polling. Ever.

Voting on election day, therefore, doesn’t tell me anything other than whether the union train folks in Nebraska decide to park a freight across the tracks, dividing a couple precincts in half… that particular dirty trick isn’t good for that many votes anymore – precincts have been re-drawn with the tracks in mind – so I don’t expect to see it.
