Sllooooooooooow afternoon.

Nothing going on. Or at least nothing that interesting. And I fully expect that my Twitter feed will become useless with all the Oscar stuff. So, I dunno.  Shuffleboard?

  1. I’m assuming if I start commenting with links to pics of “blessed” women, that will get me booted.

    Spoilsport.

  2. nap. cook. read that book you’ve been meaning to get into. do some cleaning. lots of options.

      1. Rules are : Games you have played. (And where the heck are you, that World Of Darkness is obscure?) And give an example of an obscure rule from that game. Example, Powers and Perils has rules to calculate the number of “Food Points” a character needs each day, based on their race, character size, Strength, and Stamina.

        1. I’m in Houston. It seems like all anyone plays is Pathfinder, or at least they’re the most vocal about it.

Unless you count the weird D&D campaign many years ago [xenomorphs were a serious problem, and we ended up going to the Galaxy Rangers universe and buying robot horses], the most obscure thing I’ve played more than a one-shot in is Exalted. In which you get dice bonuses for describing your actions in the most over-the-top, anime/kung fu action style possible.

          1. I’m middle aged. Finding a bunch of good players for oddball games is even harder than finding time to run them.
            .
But I’m very happy about the pdf revolution. Not having to find shelf space makes it a lot easier to buy games I know I’ll never be able to play.

          2. Yeah, finding people to play games with was a lot easier in college [which was quite a while ago].

In theory, it ought to be relatively easy to find a group, through various social media. In practice, I’ve made some sort of connection with at least 2 groups in the past year, but both flaked out.

        2. Eh. I once ran an In Nomine convention game that had Beth (Line Editor for the game), a bunch of writers for the game, and the Line Editor’s six-year-old daughter as PCs. That was actually pretty funny: the LE and her husband had brought along their kid to the game, because where are you going to find a sitter at the con? So the LE tells me, clearly meaning it as a joke, that her daughter had gotten it into her head that she was going to get to play Beleth, the canonical Demon Princess of Nightmares in the game.

I looked Beth right in the eye and said “Sure. No problem.”

Fun game. I ran The Great Cow Race of 2003, and I’m blessed if I remember a single bit of it coherently. ‘Madcap’ seems about right.

          1. Man, you guys aren’t jaded at ALL! You guys really should geek Powers and Perils (see link above) or Synnibarr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_of_Synnibarr (Which, alas, I have never gotten to play.). Power and Perils. What a great proof that the designer should NOT be the editor…. Some great ideas, once you dug for a few weeks to figure out what the heck the game was trying to say, and had read all the footnotes (There are parts of the game you only know about if you have read the footnotes……). Darkling Light, for example. Take damage until death. Only stopped by Dispel Chaos at a higher level then the DL’s, or the death of the caster. Shame the game has a spell fumble mechanism……

Cool story about In Nomine. Only got to play once, but enjoyed it a lot, both mechanics and story. Wish I could make it to more conventions, but you can run a good store, or a good con booth. Have yet to see anyone do both, so I chose store.

  3. Brining a pork roast for later. Re-reading Miles Cameron’s “Traitor Son” series- The Red Knight and the Fell Sword. History, fantasy, magic, American Indians meet the medieval world and “sometimes the Princess is more dangerous than the Monster.” Great for slow days. Highly recommended, as is his Ill Made Knight series, written as Christian Cameron.

  4. Let’s get the party started!

I’m in Michigan. We cracked two digits above the zero mark.

Yeah, it’s party time in the Great Lakes State! We’ll hit the water! (literally)

Boat Show next weekend! Time to get everything ready – as soon as we figure out which snowdrift is the boat!
