In the Mail (and, bizarrely, E-Mail): Dave vs. the Monsters.

Emergence: Dave vs. the Monsters is the first book in a trilogy by John Birmingham, who is a writer that should be writing more so that I can buy more of his books*.  This series is, as far as I can tell: Monsters from Hell show up.  Dave discovers that he is apparently really good at killing them… which is awkward, because he’s an oil rigger who acts more or less EXACTLY like these guys did.

I’m only halfway through the book, and this is already starting to be awkward for the US government.  And that’s even with Dave having voted for Obama! …Well. Dave would definitely have voted for Obama the first time. If Dave had been sober.

In other words: so far, it’s been a pretty fun book.

*Although I’m still trying to figure out how I managed to order both the Kindle and dead tree versions of his book without noticing.  Weird.
