Ricochet’s 2016 GOP Primary Bracket.

It would certainly clarify matters.

And yes, I’ve filled one out. I’m just not going to publicly release it, because people get antsy when I play too much in primaries.  I don’t really think that people should get antsy, in my case at least; but they do, anyway.

  1. It’s not really organized very well, Jeb and Rand should swap so that could be an entire region of liberal Republicans. Probably swap Lindsey Graham in there as well, drop Pataki and replace with ‘None of the above’ or ‘politician to be named later’.

For that matter, it would be easy to have at least part of a bracket that was ‘nominees that will make me vote third-party’. There’s some overlap with liberal Republicans, but it’s not a complete match.

    1. I dunno. As is it seems carefully designed to eliminate pretty much all of the unfortunate candidates in the first wave (it also would eliminate Bobby Jindal, who is NOT an unfortunate candidate, but we’ve got a full slate already).

      1. I think you’re seriously underestimating the dislike for Jeb.
I think Bobby wins that matchup in a walk.

        1. Jeb has name recognition, money, a rolodex, white skin, and a Cubano wife.

Bobby has .. that he’s not Jeb to start.

I .. don’t see “in a walk”, but .. if Jeb wins, I’m voting third party. Bobby, I’d vote for.

          1. Well, we are positing a direct 1:1 matchup.
In that context, pretty much anybody beats Jeb.
Add in that Jindal is a darned good policy wonk, and is more than capable of pointing out the holes in Bush’s blather.

The only way Jeb has a chance is if the establishment solidifies behind him early. And that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen this time. The Bush name also carries a lot of baggage, Jeb has gone out of his way to insult the base on numerous occasions, and there are other moderates in the race that are much more interesting.

          2. In any case, I think Perry advances to the Final Four there to play Rubio(he’ll roll over Trump who has an aggressive game, but usually burns out after the half). I’m hoping Fiorina can knock Christie out, she’s got a great offense this season. Still, ya gotta watch out for early upsets that wreck your whole bracket

  2. If the final turns out to be Bush vs. Christie, I’m rooting for injuries.

    1. I’ll join you .. although I don’t see it coming down that way.

So far, this is an interesting year in that the establishment types haven’t managed to get any of their candidates to catch fire yet ..

    2. Bush for me is in the ‘hold my nose and pull the lever’ category, though he could certainly move himself out of that into ‘stay home/third party’ territory going forward. Christie’s definitely in the latter category, and as an anti-gun politician leading an anti-gun state, there’s essentially nothing he could do to entice me to vote for him.

      1. They’re both in the “I’m voting third party” category for me.

Admittedly, I have it a little easier .. there’s no way any of the Establishment squishes will be able to carry my state; they won’t run the kind of broad-based pro-America campaign that it takes.

        1. Definitely reasons to view third party.
“But the other guy is worse” no longer carries any weight with me.
          Want my vote?
          Be someone worth voting for.

  3. Now you can see clearly those who have *volunteered* to run for the office. And I wrote *volunteered* on purpose.

So go out and support your best candidate amongst those who have *volunteered* and there is no crying that the one you want isn’t here because everyone that is running has *volunteered* to do so. There is no crying, please.

  4. N.B.: You may cry that the candidate who holds all of the positions you support has not *volunteered* to run. In that case go encourage that candidate to *volunteer* or go run yourself already.
    Please.
