This site is not friendly territory for defenders[*] of Donald Trump.

I have taken down no names, and have no desire to. However, this is neither negotiable, nor a topic for discussion. If you cannot respect that, it is my suggestion that you simply stop reading me.

Thank you.

Moe Lane

PS: No more will be spoken of this matter.

[*Actually, one clarification. I don’t care about the people who use the he-shakes-up-the-establishment arguments; that’s just people being wrong. But I’ve spent the weekend dealing with the fallout of having people not involved in politics hiding in their hotel rooms because their husband, father, and son had the temerity to dis-invite a crude buffoon after one too many verbal outrages. There was no conspiracy or hidden motivations – and frankly no excuse for what happened afterward – and I am tired of encountering all three.

However, I’ve turned comments back on for this post; don’t make me regret it.]

  1. Your site. Do as you like.
Doesn’t strike me as fair minded though…not that you’d care.

    1. Larry, that last jab is utterly uncalled for, and is frankly beneath you. I’ve been a daily reader of Moe’s for many years, since at least 2007, if a rare commenter. He has always been even-handed, and gone to noticeable lengths to avoid unnecessarily rustling his readers’ feathers where he and we disagree. He has welcomed and even supported commenters who hold or held radically differing opinions on political and cultural matters (Hi Gator!). I’ve only noticed you comment on a few occasions, but from those comments I expected rather more graciousness and class from you than this. I hope it’s a one-off moment.

Not that I have ever had a fit of pique while in reach of the keyboard, noooooo… /sarc 🙂

      1. My point is that you don’t need to be a supporter of Trump to have noticed that his presence has changed this whole election cycle.
Limiting discussion of this phenomena does not strike me as a good idea.

        1. I don’t think Moe is going to ban people simply for talking how Trump turned this cycle into another clown show like 2012/2008

  2. I’ve been mocking Trump as a buffoon with a squirrel for a hairpiece for quite a while now. Credit where it’s due, blame Abrams (Sluggy Freelance) for the hairpiece bit .. it totally fits.
    .
Trump lucked into someone elses’ nightmare (the San Francisco murder perpetrated by an illegal immigrant) and moved the Overton Window, which is a significant feat for a squirrel-topped kook. I consider that a net positive.
    .
Trump is a loudmouth, a blow-hard, an obnoxious boor .. see how hard I work to skirt your profanity-filter? .. if he were an investment, though .. that’d all be “baked in”, as the saying goes. He didn’t suddenly decide to take up potty-mouthed inappropriateness as his “new thing to try in August”, eh?
    .
    So.
    .
That’s kind of the long way around to say that while I am not interested in defending The Donald, I also believe y’all made an error with a public dis-invitation… a public excoriation would have been more appropriate ..
    .
In the meantime, we’ll just wait for the Dim Mak to do it’s thang.

    1. Pretty much this.
      .
It’ll be a sad day for the Republic if Trump gets elected President.
But that’s exactly how I feel about *most* of the candidates.

  3. As friendly as he’s been to the Clintons, I can’t help but think he is being used in a sad attempt to re-ride “Perot” into the White House……

    1. Pretty much my concern, right there.
      .
I think the Red State disinvitation was a tactical error, because it gives him a grudge to nurse.
But then, I don’t think he’s ever lacked for grudges, many of them created from thin air.

    2. I can’t help but think he is being used in a sad attempt to re-ride “Perot” into the White House…

      Bingo.

So when Her Inevitability gets the Democrat nomination, we need to do whatever we can to push Bernie Sanders to run as the “Independent Socialist” that he is.

  4. My thoughts also. I’m not overly fond of Trump anyway, I see it as an attempt by Clinton to game the system to make sure no matter which party wins there’s still a Dem in the White House come 2017. Or failing that get a redo Perot 1992 and put HRC in the White House. Trump thinks he’s smart but Bill’s smarter.

  5. Good for you! After reading some of the worst stuff, both on RS and on Erick’s personal and private Facebook comments section, I couldn’t agree more. I’ve said it in previous posts online that Trump is the political equivalent of South Park’s Cartman with Tourettes. And too many of his supporters revel in their dark places causing so much grief.

  6. I’ve suspected the Clinton’s of inciting both Trump and Perot since shortly after Trump joined.
    .
I would expect them to have done so a third time, at least, if they have done so twice. I dunno what role Ron Paul played in 2008, and the argument I’ve heard about Nader in 2000 isn’t absolutely compelling. I haven’t much idea about the Arkansas governor’s and New York senator’s races.
    .
That said, my suspicion of someone with ties to Democrats may be inappropriate. If we are to get someone sane and functional, much less good, into the White House in 2016, we may need to be willing to cooperate with people who voted for Obama in 2008 or 2012.

  7. I am stunned at the support he’s getting simply because he has spouted the “right” position on immigration. Has he shown any sign of having conservative (or even mildly GOP) positions on any other subject? His supporters don’t seem to care. I get that they are drawn in by his willingness to say what he wants and stand up to the media, etc…but just like Carson and (to some degree) Christie, they are on that stage because they made a couple of pretty speeches or said the right things. Isn’t that how we got Obama?

    1. Pretty much. People say he has the right enemies. But the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily a friend.* Both Stalin and Bin Laden prove that.

He’s admitted to being a corrupt narcissist, and his claim to fame is simply being a more efficient corrupt narcissist.

    2. What Trump and Christie both do well is ape the lefty “speak truth to power” schtick.**
      .
There’s a *lot* of anger out of the normal corridors of power, and most of the candidates aren’t effectively tapping it, they aren’t going around the media, blowing up the narrative.
      .
Trump (and, to a lesser extent, the New Jersey Valkyrie) have both made careers doing *just that*, so .. it’s not surprising to see ’em pulling it here, nor is it particularly surprising to see it working.
      .
What’s needed is for a competent, sane candidate (Perry? Walker? *Jindal*?) to present an *intelligent* rationale to the angry .. to peel them off the loudmouths and get them supporting instead of just seeking to tear down.
      .
Tough row, though, and very early because the first one who tries for it will end up targeted by Jeb!’s money. (Jeb! can’t try for it .. he’s not well spoken enough to pull it off, as he’s already proven)
      .
So .. buckle up, it gets bumpier from here.

** Carson does the truth-to-power bit too, but from a more religious angle; with more smiles and sharper teeth. (his debate performance was very *very* good .. when he had a chance to talk .. but I still say he’s best qualified to be Surgeon General)

    3. You’re missing the sheer, unadulterated hatred the Republican party has earned from the base.

      1. One of the things the followers of the Jesus-fish get right is that whole “in your anger, do not sin” bit ..
        .
The application, in this case, is if anger drives someone to support a Dem tool like Christie or a self-aggrandizing squirrel-wearing loudmouth (and possible Dem plant) like Trump .. then you don’t need to pay quite so much attention to politics .. your anger has led you to be a Democrat.

        1. +1. I would just add, for all the “There’s not a dimes worth of difference between the two parties!” people, there are no Republican Detroits, no Republican boat people. We may not always understand what our representatives are doing, but it’s working. Which you can’t say about anything the Democrats touch……

          1. That, of course, presumes the “not a dimes worth..” types are willing to trust their own lyin’ eyes, eh?
            .
I suggest a closer look at the dwarves at the end of C.S. Lewises’ Narnia series.. at least I think I mean dwarves and Narnia, it’s been a long time.

  8. I’m going to do you a favor, BJM: your comment got caught by the spam filters (too many links), which gives me an excuse to unofficially ignore it.

    1. Well this is awkward. It appears that our submissions crossed.
      .
Thanks, but I’ll just return to lurking on political posts.
