Somebody once told me that the re-make “The Thing” had Dr. Whatsisname, Annoying Scientist as one of the faces on the burnt mess outside the Norwegian camp. Just a flash, they say, but the sculptor didn’t like Dr. W.
It must be. According to IMDB, the movie runs an hour and twenty-seven minutes, not 1:12. That’s 15 minutes shaved off. Think of the revenue 15 minutes of commercials could give a struggling indie station, even at rock-bottom rates in the middle of the night.
It makes it seem as if everyone’s talking and moving like they’ve had too much Red Bull, or amphetamines.
Easiest way to do this would be to just omit every sixth frame, but still leave it at 24hz.
For a 20% speed-up, they did a nice job of phase-shifting and re-synching the audio track.
