So X-Men: Apocalypse is kind of meh?

It’s out in England now, and apparently it’s not getting all that great a reception. A little disappointing, if true; I liked First Class, and when I finally got around to Days of Future Past I found it pretty good, too. Especially since it was a time travel picture, and those are hard.

Wonder how long before they reintegrate with the MCU? – Because, let’s face it: that’s where the action is, right now. Although that’s not the one that I want to see. I want to see a Fantastic Four movie that doesn’t suck.  And don’t tell me that it can’t be done. Marvel has been racking up quite the record of making watchable movies that everybody said couldn’t be made watchable…

  1. I actually liked the previous two Fantastic Four movies, though I agree that Jessica Alba wasn’t a great Susan Storm, and they really screwed up by depersonalizing Galactus. I haven’t seen the most recent one, though it just came out on movie channels so I probably will soon (my expectations for it are very low).

I would love to see F4 become part of the MCU.

I also want to see the Silver Surfer movie we were promised.

    1. IMO, Fant4stic sucked so hard that there is now a quantum black hole at Fox’s marketing offices. But that’s just me…

  2. The problem, Moe, is that Deadpool is part of the X-Men IP and the mega success of that movie ensured a delay of them returning to the MCU.

Also, Marvel discovered in the past year or two that they have the Inhumans. Couple that with the fact that the MCU has been getting along without the X-Men for some time now. The X-Men IP is unlikely.

Marvel is, at this time, being a little bit mean. They have forbidden the X-Men writers to create any new characters/team/book. Deadpool himself hasn’t appeared in a X-Men book in some time (instead he leads an Avenger off-shoot). Marvel have also cancelled Fantastic Four books for the foreseeable future. However I can understand why they are doing what they are doing. Marvel is not in the business of making other people money.

    1. Inhumans movie has been canceled in favor of a Black Widow stand alone. Also they are releasing an R rated Wolverine, that may delay integration more.

  3. They made a good Fantastic Four movie. They just called it “the Incredibles.”

Seriously, though, the problem they keep having with the FF is 1) poor casting decisions and 2) they keep shooting their bolt too early by bringing in people like Doctor Doom and Galactus way too early with way too little fanfare. Those two should be Thanos-level threats, and treated as such- a good first FF movie would have a lower-level threat just so the movie can be more about the character because, let’s face it, the FF’s rogues’ gallery isn’t particularly large or interesting.

Actually, I think a good first FF movie would be the FF versus the U-Foes. I know the U-Foes are z-list villains, but since they got their powers the same way as the FF, you could roll the hero and villain origins into one single event then have the rest of the movie about the characters as the team disintegrates over how they use their new powers.

Darkhawk should get his own movie.
