Ah, science writing. Self-sabotaging science writing.

Actual story: scientists in Zurich are working on a way to speed up optical recognition by robots to the point where one could follow you around. They did this by mimicking the way that a retina works, in order to allow the robot to react quickly to changes in lighting and so forth.  While they used the term ‘predator,’ obviously this is not an actual act of violence or even real intent.

The title that The Daily Mail used: “Rise of the ‘Terminators’: Super-intelligent predator robot is taught to hunt down prey in chilling experiment.”  I’m amazed that they avoided the use of multiple rampaging exclamation points.  Maybe somebody was ill that day…

  1. Any AI needs to be hunted down and deleted. We humans keep sane knowing that our evil tormentors will eventually die. We all know that we share the same fate. An immortal AI will not share our mortality or the experiences that makes us human.

“But Gator, the Three Laws Of Robotics?!” Three Laws, yeah whatever. A true AI will be able to delete or ignore them.
