That’s… exactly as I imagined Mr. Wednesday looking. Or, at least, now that I’ve seen Ian McShane in the part I’ve retroactively decided that that was how the character always looked. The point is, that’s inspired casting*. Reassuringly so, in fact.
Some need to see to believe. Here's a first look at #AmericanGods, coming in 2017. https://t.co/qAIVnUJt8C

*Mind you, the casting looks pretty solid in general. I’ve never seen Ricky Whittle in anything, but he does have the right look for the part. But I’m really impressed with the casting for Mr. Wednesday.
I’ve liked McShane ever since watching Lovejoy reruns on A&E.
For some reason, the video hangs for me around the two thirds mark. It is on Youtube, but it might get yanked (as it did not look to be posted by starz), so I won’t post a link.
Wednesday doesn’t look at all like I imagined him, I always saw him with white hair, wispy stubble, and an impish grin/mischievous sparkle in the eye. (Any similarity to unnamed relatives is perfectly appropriate.)
But Shadow was pretty close. And Czernoborg was spot on.
What ARE you folks on about?
American Gods is a fantasy novel by Neil Gaiman about, well, American gods. One of the characters is Mr. Wednesday; not a viewpoint character, but very very important. So he’s gotta *look* right. I personally feel that Ian McShane is a great choice for the role.
He doesn’t look right, but the personality feels right.
OK, that’s fair. I didn’t have him in my mind’s eye, after all.
Czernoborg’s bloody hands make sense, but not really how I imagined things. Wednesday looks good, but maybe gives off more Evil than I’d expect. But, what the heck, it’s a good book, seems to be a reasonable adaptation.
