Full points for the magic lasso. The UNAPOLOGETIC magic lasso. There is a time for blatant use of CGI, and showing the audience the magic lasso is one of them.
I feel that this one has definite potential. Of course, I am a man of simple tastes. Give me a ridiculously good-looking woman in fairly tight-fitting armor who is fully prepared to sword-and-board her way through the entire Imperial German Army, and I am willing to forgive much. Such is my nature.
Is the world war I stuff canon for the heroine? Never read any of the DC stuff.
No. Wondy originally appeared in “Man’s World” during WWII. In the times since then that she’s rebooted (The post-Crisis comic reboot, the JL cartoon, the animated movie and the 70s TV show) she’s just shown up at whatever the current time was. But there was a picture of her in WW1 in Batman vs Superman and frankly, it’s an interesting change.
Actually, the first season of the 70s show was set in the 40s. The studio didn’t like how much money all the costumes and props were costing, so they basically set it during the (then) modern era.

Oh, I also wanted to comment on something else on Wonder Woman. I think Gal Gadot is an inspired choice.
I said this yesterday on another blog, but I am all for cleavage. I like it a lot. However, there is something to be said for the smoky, smoldering woman who just walks by and makes you think: “She may be Hell on two legs, but it might be worth the price of admission.”
Sultry sexiness is something that can transcend the physical attributes of a lady. I am glad DC went in this direction. I did not think many movie companies even knew what it was anymore.
Yeah, I made my peace with Gadot as Wonder Woman when she demonstrated that she could play the part properly.
