Was this live-action Beauty and the Beast movie as bizarre as it looks?

Because it looks pretty freaking bizarre. And not just because it’s French, although that’s not hurting the surrealism level any.  I’m getting a definite ‘French Revolution’ vibe off of this one, which is something that I normally do not associate with Beauty and the Beast.

And no, this is not the Disney flick. This apparently came out a couple of years ago. And the fact that I’ve never heard of it probably is significant.

    1. This cold has been a weird one. I feel better today – all hail the regenerative power of rib-eye – but yesterday I was kind of flying.

  1. Wow. That looks deeper than anything Disney would ever put out. I’m getting serious Pan’s Labyrinth vibes, but maybe that’s just the going Euro-style right now.

  2. I always thought that BaTB was set in the period just prior to the Revolution, with all the “Cursed” and “Ugly” and “Cold & Heartless” royals in need of redemption-and-forgiveness-from-the-common-folk themes…

…And maybe not. But if it did take place just before, then Bella&Beasty (and their kids) were certainly killed shortly after the “…And they lived Happily Ever After. The End.”
