I watched this with narrowed eyes – this is a family favorite for both my wife and myself – but, yeah, it’s fair. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a deeply strange movie. Which is why it’s a family favorite to us, in fact.

We are Santa’s Elves is such an earwig for me. And honestly, I kinda like all the songs from this. And Holly Jolly Christmas is one of the best modern Christmas songs, and Burl Ives absolutely owns it.
.
But yeah, the general plot line is pretty weird, even if they were pretty much bound to some kind of other-ism allegory as soon as they decided to make a whole show out of that song.
“We’ll love you when you’re beautiful/exploitable” is an old standard.

But then, ours is a people that wrote nursery rhymes about The Plague and produced a movie loosely based on “Battleship”. YMMV.
I’ve long thought it was entirely reasonable for all the reindeer to ostracize Rudolph. His mutation was a danger to their survival. If you’re a prey species, you need to be able to camouflage yourself. Notice how, during the movie, tje bumble is constantly drawn towards Rudolph.
