Hold up: ‘Split’ didn’t suck?

But… Split is a M. Night Shyamalan movie! …OK, so maybe that was harsh.  But it’s been a long freaking time since Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense. And, OK, sure, Signs and The Village weren’t awful. But it got pretty bad out there, after a bit.  Perhaps I’m just being bitter.

Perhaps.

Anyway, here is the trailer.

  1. I actually like The Village myself. People say they saw the twists coming, I did not. Maybe I was in one of those moods where I wanted to be lead when I first saw the movie.

    1. I also liked it, even seeing the twists, the moral was sufficiently solid.

      1. I too thought The Village was fantastic, while noting that he revealed the twist way too soon to have any lasting impact.

Lady was just throwing random fantasy tropes at the wall. Or into the pool, as the case may be.

I never bothered with Happening, and what possessed any studio with knowledge of style and genre to let him anywhere near Last Air Bender is beyond me.

Nice to see he’s back on a reasonable track though.

  2. I did like Signs, and there were quite a few things to like about The Village, but Lady in the Water was just bad. And ask reports were that he kept getting worse after that.
