I will believe that Firefly is coming back when I hear it from Joss Whedon’s lips.

Not before. I refuse to let myself believe that we could get a second season of Firefly.  Heck, even if we could: would it be as good as we’d hope it would be?  There are a lot of expectations, here. A LOT of expectations.

  1. Given the way Wheadon has gone around the bend, I’d doubt it would be the same show if it did come back.

  2. Please no. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Firefly, but a remake won’t be the show I loved. Go make something new.

  3. i’d have to be among those that believe that while the show was spectacular, redoing it now would be problematic.

Whedon has always excelled at setting up stories and characters. When he has time to get beyond origin stories and dig into them however, there can be problems. Combine this with his current… predilections (trying to skirt the rules here), and you invite even more trouble.

Firefly without Ron Glass as Shepherd Book would also not be the same.

Firefly season 2 will always be much greater in our imaginations than what we would get now, I think. I would love to be proven wrong, but I kinda doubt it.

    1. I’d be willing to give it a shot, but I don’t expect they can recapture the je n’ais se quoi of the original season, either. Lightning in a bottle and all that, even assuming they could get the remaining cast members back.

I wish them luck, and would be willing to watch, but I am not optimistic.

    2. Wheedon has made it clear he does not want my viewership, and I don’t think it violates the rules to say so.

      1. With deference to our Host** naturally. I’ll push it no further than that.

**If we post lyrics for Moe does he know our darkest secrets? Is that why he post all the music videos? *shifty eyes*

    3. I think that my tender sensibilities can survive a forthright “Joss Whedon has been a contentious partisan asshole lately,” folks. At least, as long as people don’t warm to the topic. 🙂

      1. Eh, Joss Whedon is a hack. I believe most of the things that made the series so beloved can be accredited to Tim Minear.

      2. To be fair, Whedon’s political issues are just one facet of why I am thinking this could not work.

Do you go from the movie continuity? Book and Wash were already dead, then. You have also semi-resolved the Kaylee-Simon romance.

All I am saying is that it was a true ensemble cast and synergy.

  4. Though Firefly is my favorite show ever, I think that ship broke atmo a long time ago, and no power in the ‘verse is going to bring it back.

I would still watch if it was made, but with very low expectations.

    Curse you, Fox!

  5. Not interested. The movie killed it for me, or rather, the last fifteen minutes of the movie killed it for me.

Between the abrupt genre switch, and all the deux ex machina, it was an jarring experience. Until the end of the Mass Effect series, it was my poster child for bad writing of an ending.

  6. While I would like to see what they did to it, I .. do not think Fox or Joss Whedon could repeat. Not now.
    .
Same problem as George Lucas .. the creator *does not comprehend* the creation.
    .
That said .. if Amazon threw enough of a budget at some *seriously* talented writers, there are stories that could be told ..
