Bring back the Red Skull!

A little bit earlier I was wondering on Twitter when they were bringing back the Red Skull to the MCU – dissolved or no, he and Loki are the only two really decent villains the movies have had – and then I found out that the answer is ‘probably not, because Hugo Weaving didn’t enjoy the experience.’  Which is a shame, honestly. He pretty much locked in that role.

But, as Comicbook.com notes, time can heal all wounds:

…Yahoo raised the question of Red Skull’s possible role in the cosmic event that will be Avengers: Infinity War, since the Cosmic Cube is one of the components of The Infinity Gauntlet, aka god-like power that is wielded by Thanos. While still not jumping for joy over the thought of another MCU performance, Weaving was also careful not to rule it out completely:

With Marvel, it’s pretty basic stuff: accept the deal and enjoy the ride. It’s not a major stretch for an actor, but on the other hand the difficulty with the Marvel universe is maintaining a link to a human dimension within such an extraordinary, technological CGI universe. In terms of me going back and doing another one, I don’t know. I’m not sure what they’re up to with the Red Skull.

This is back from September, so if they tapped him for Infinity War or the Avengers flick after that one (it won’t be Infinity War Part 2) we’d have heard by now. But the Red Skull would make a perfectly nice villain for a future movie. Especially when they wind down the current stages of the MCU.  I just hope that if it happens, it does so before I’m fifty.

…Yikes, that’s weird to write.
