Ghost Canoes
These incredibly handy artifacts can only be made from wood from a tree that died, and was then left strictly alone for a full century. This makes them available only from Elves, a similarly long-lived species, or a community of incredibly patient mortals. Fortunately, once constructed Ghost Canoes can be repaired with regular wood.
A Ghost Canoe typically seats four human-size people, plus a decent amount of gear, and weighs about 80 pounds. It is enchanted to float on the ghosts of rivers and waterways: it can thus be used to swiftly navigate through dry riverbeds, ancient sea beds, and anywhere that used to be part of free-flowing water. The users must supply motive power, but simply paddling the empty air will produce enough force to push the Ghost Canoe forward. Also: as there is no actual current, the Ghost Canoe can move equally as fast in ‘backwards.’
Unfortunately, thanks to the enchantment and the materials used, in an actual waterway the Ghost Canoe has all the float capacity of a jagged rock.
