I’ll be honest: I want to hate this trailer.
But I can’t quite manage it. There are elements to it that appeal. The cast has its points. There’s a lot of roguery on that screen. The outfits look better than I was expecting. And the lead actor actually said more than one line and I still didn’t throw my fist through the monitor screen.
:rubbing head, tiredly: This is how they get us, isn’t it? This is how they get into our heads. The Mouse knows just how to push my goram buttons, and they can even use my own nerdrage against me. I am watching myself being seduced into seeing this after all, and there’s not a dang thing I can do about it. Well done, Disney. Well freaking done.

Trailer makes it look pretty good, actually. Considering.
I think a big part of why this trailer works is it shows they seem to have the Han-Chewie relationship more or less right. If that works, I think it’ll carry the rest of the movie.

The Phantom Menace killed my caring.
Welcome to the club. There was an episode of Star Trek Voyager where Paris and Captain Janeway got turned into newts by transwarp, had babies which they left behind because reasons.

For me, that was the moment where I realized it just wasn’t worth it to care as deeply as I had about Star Trek or Star Wars.
If it’s any consolation, the crew repudiated that episode.
I roused myself for The Force Awakens, which wasn’t bad. I actually enjoyed Rogue 1 for the Star Wars meets Dirty Dozen it was. But The Last Jedi killed the franchise for me.
I have no desire to see this movie. I will not see Episode 9 unless they repudiate about half the debacle of the last movie. And if they actually go through with the Rian Johnson trilogy, I will not watch any of them. I was never a George Lucas idolater who thought Disney would necessarily ruin the franchise. I thought the prequels were dross. But they’ve certainly made a go at it with The Last Jedi and their pathetic defense of it.
I personally want to see Rian Johnson cry and apologize, both at the same time.
