Or at least, that’s one guess.
I mean, let’s face it: if you’re setting an action movie in 1984, you’re pretty much going to be using Soviet Commies. Oh, I suppose that you could use Chinese Commies, but they weren’t really the Main Enemy back then and good luck getting Chinese audiences to watch an American* woman kick their parents’ Maoist posteriors. But they’ll happily watch her do that to Russian posteriors, so I think that we’re all good here.

PS: I will be assuming that Patty Jenkins has internalized the fable of The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs until she demonstrates to me that she did not.
*I know that it’s more complicated than that, technically. But only technically.
I’d watch that.
Coming off The Americans, I’d watch an ’80s set flick.
Well, that’s assuming that they don’t decide to use that *other* 1984 as their setting. I would hope not. But given how determinedly grim most of the DC movies have been, I’m not going to rule it out.
I was thinking that they might juke and use, say, the Libyans as bad guys, but these days that’s even more unlikely that using the Russkis.
