I mean, I get that nothing in that mosaic is fragile. But still. Some things you want to preserve for as long as possible.

PS: It’s the colors. The colors are perfect for “underwater and lit by sunlight.” The subtle blur, likewise.

Guy Gavriel Kay wrote a two-book series about a guy who makes mosaics. The first book is called “Sailing to Sarantium.” I don’t remember the second book.
There are some really good passages in there about how mosaics are created.
