Well, this is odd.
Disney has decided hit the pause button on Fox’s remake of 1988’s science-fiction thriller “Alien Nation.”
:snip:
The “Alien Nation” movie project is being put on hold rather than being put into turnaround, three months after Disney completed its $71.3 billion acquisition of much of 21st Century Fox’s film and television assets.
(H/T Coming Soon) I can understand Disney dropping the project; the company’s already starting to kill off some of Fox’s existing projects. I can also understand Disney letting the project go forward; the IP is surprisingly robust. The movie had ended up with a good critical reputation and the TV show got a surprising number of made-for-TV movies made. So why pause it?
I suspect that the script may be the problem. It may have been deemed a bit too… topical. The Mouse is often not all that happy with topical, particularly when it irritates their core marketing demographic (parents with small children and disposable income). But that is frankly a guess. I’m not exactly juiced-in here, more’s the pity.
