The “Voyage Home” boardgame pre-launch.

I came across this during the Kickstarter: whenever a backer happens to have also done their own Kickstarter I like to take a look at what they’ve done. Stands to reason, right? More likely to see something personally interesting that way than just a random project. Anyway, I ran across this from Manticore Entertainment: Voyage Home. It’s a board game version of the Odyssey, essentially; you have to get all the quests done and back to Ithaca before you run out of time, food, or sailors. Right now it’s on pre-order, but it should be coming out fairly soon.

Now, I don’t do board games, as you all know – aside from everything else, I don’t have the room – but if WashingCon was still going on this September I might have picked up a copy as a present/prize, because the folks there obviously do do board games and this looks right up their alley. I talked to the publisher: Manticore is based out of Australia, but they’ve made arrangements to get them shipped internally in the USA for cheaper. They’re also happy to talk bulk rates, so drop me a line if you want further details there*.

*This sort of declaimer has to be done now: I ain’t getting paid to plug this, and I won’t get a cut of the proceeds. I just saw an interesting project from a backer who was more than happy to talk my ear off about it, that’s all. Also, yeah, I’m gonna miss WashingCon. They’re moving it to the spring, sure, but they’re also moving it out of a hotel. I dunno if it’s gonna be really the same, after that.
