‘Walking on Broken Glass.’

Walking on Broken Glass, Annie Lennox

I don’t miss this kind of relationship drama; but it gets more amusing, the farther away it is. Not that I ever experienced Annie Lennox levels of relationship drama. The very idea is slightly alarming.

  1. Long, long ago, I was the proctor at a fraternity in a large eastern US university. Relationship drama was unavoidable and involved (among other things):

    a. Fart fires
    b. Fisticuffs
    c. Attempted Suicide
    d. Both Wild and Domesticated animals
    e. Both Attempted and Successful Arson
    f. Attempted Gunfire (both young women were unfamiliar with external safeties)
    g. Attempted manslaughter with a butcher knife, a rolling pin and a heavy porcelain chili bowl (empty)
    h. The ingestion of immense quantities of alcohol.
    (see a thru g above)

Tragically, I also saw broken engagements, broken marriages (with children caught in the blast) and a successful suicide. It almost always seemed to start with someone saying “It’s just sex”.
Hint: It is never JUST sex.

Thank God for the distance that time provides.
