Please don’t make a sequel to NIGHT COURT.

I’m sorry, but it can’t be done. Some things cannot be reproduced: “The classic ‘80s sitcom Night Court is getting a sequel series at NBC, and original series star John Larroquette is set to return as Dan Fielding. Big Bang Theory alum Melissa Rauch is attached as an executive producer on the series.” Harry Anderson has passed, and most of the original cast would be in their seventies. My family watched NIGHT COURT and we all loved it, but let it rest.

  1. Itsy bitsy quibble.

    It can’t be done **well**.

They’ve *badly* rebooted several series over the years… I’d really hate to see ’em butcher Night Court .. but this is what happens when they aren’t willing to pay for fresh material.

Speaking of which .. I’m about 99% convinced “Frozen Dreams” could be filmed live-action on a fairly small budget.

    1. I’ve seen what the British have attempted with Discworld. “Budget” is a double-edged sword of Could v. Should.

      1. Agreed, and I did mean “could” when I wrote it.

Moe would not only have to have creative oversight .. he’d have to be darn near stampy about it. (stamp his feet, shout “no” at the top of his lungs, that sort of thing)

That said .. somewhere north of 90% of “Frozen Dreams” could be done with practical effects .. the remainder could be done with CGI-enhanced practical effects. (without giving too much away, Wolfie’s glowing-green-floating-wards could be done either with LED-driven plastic or, far better, by CGI-enhancement of a color-marked (green fabric) piece of the costume)

Should it be done? Mr. Lane has *far* more control in that area than a mere ..

  2. Oh, huh. I was going to put something out there about how maybe this was going to be more of a Cheers->Frasier thing, and how that might not suck, but no… they really are trying to plug back into the formula as hard as they can, aren’t they?

That… well, it’s still technically *possible* that it might not suck, right? I admit that I’m not holding much hope on this one.

  3. Sure, its wrong from every moral and ethical viewpoint, but neither of those is ever a concern for Hollywood types. They see a chance to abuse the goodwill of an audience they didn’t pay for and the opportunity to write about the ‘injustice’ of a court system that dares to even temporarily detain those of the favored classes. Make no mistake and have no illusions, every week will feature SJW pontificating, with no cogent counterpoint ever offered..

  4. Mr Laroquette’s guest appearances on “Chuck” were fun, but there’s no way he can carry the whole show. This can’t last a season, if it even makes a pilot.

    1. He’s attempted to carry a show before .. he had his own series after Night Court .. lasted 3 seasons, is not available on home video, I never noticed it until I read his IMDB page.
      .
Laroquette is a good member of an ensemble cast, his time on Boston Legal is *almost* the opposite of his time on Night Court.
      .
I’ll go so far as to say .. *IF* they get a good ensemble, it *might* not suck .. but it will not be Night Court.

      1. “The Dan Laroquette Show” cast him as the recovering? alcoholic night manager at a bus station IIRC. It was a dark-and-gritty (TM of DC films) reboot of Wings essentially. I remember liking it when it was on but haven’t met many others with fond recollections, or really any recollections at all.

      2. I do recall that a show “existed” which he led. My take is, it’s possible for him to carry a show in general, but not this particular one.
