Quote of the Day, JUSTICE LEAGUE 2: This Time, It’s Personal edition.

Zack Snyder didn’t say this today – today he just announced a March 2021 release of JUSTICE LEAGUE – but I hadn’t realized he had said this earlier.

When previously asked about if he would incorporate some of Whedon’s footage, the filmmaker said: “Would set [Justice League] on fire before I use a single frame I did not photograph.”

…I am starting to wonder if there may be some bad blood here.

  1. Back in the day, I looked at the fans who chanted, “Joss Whedon is my master now”, and wondered why they were doing such a thing.
I also wondered what manner of man would *encourage* that behavior to be directed at himself.
    .
I’ve since concluded that I wouldn’t enjoy meeting Mr. Whedon.

    1. For all Wheedon’s talent, I get the impression he’s left a trail of burned bridges recently. All his lauded “strong woman” characters were just “Nymphomaniac Ninja” teenage fantasy tropes. Once he hit MeToo™ territory that foundation crumbled quickly.

  2. The combo writer/director may seem like just another multi-task/ego-trip like singer/songwriter, but it is not.
Singer/songwriter is kind of noble – I wrote it myself I’ll perform it myself, even if I don’t have a classic ‘voice’.
Writer/Director has mental health issues galore – putting your fantasies on paper and them making people reproduce them for you over and over again until they get it juuuuust right, (not to mention then going over the footage again and again in a dark room looking for those special camera angles) its a mélange of unchecked egomania, domination and wish-fulfillment that corrupts pretty much everyone who assumes the mantle.

There’s a cursed role playing item in there – the director’s loupe of compulsion maybe, with a geas spell cast for any commands issued while looking through it but cumulative psychic damage and/or reduction to charisma and wisdom – I’m sure you have plenty of time to flesh that out and write it, Moe.

    1. Adding “producer” to the writer/director mix is akin to summoning the Old Ones to tea. It’s not a good idea.
