In the Mail: the Frankie & Annette MGM Movie Legends Collection.

Otherwise known as Frankie & Annette MGM Movie Legends Collection (Beach Blanket Bingo / How to Stuff a Wild Bikini / Beach Party / Bikini Beach / Fireball 500 / Thunder Alley / Muscle Beach Party / Ski Party). …I ain’t gonna lie; some of these look really, really bad. I figure Beach Blanket Bingo at least won’t suck, but at least one of these flicks involve moonshiners and I’m already wincing. Ach, the things that I do for my art!

PS: I also ordered the Gidget flicks. “Do a beach-noir book,” I said. “It’ll be fun,” I said…

  1. You can’t just WATCH Gidget. You gotta READ Gidget.
    Only then will you understand.

Really. It’s a quick read (under 200 pages) and the implications and inferences about both society and the author are…unexpected.

  2. They’re not so bad.
They’re cheesy, but gosh-darned earnest about it.

They are about as far from noir as it’s possible to get. Sun drenched and colorful, not to mention that wholesome, innocent girls bubbling over with enthusiasm make for horrible femme fatales.

    1. Yes, but take an innocent girl bubbling over with enthusiasm in a bikini and put her in a noir story. That right there is comedy gold and I am only slightly envious that Moe thought of it first.
