Earth!
I coalesced into an alley… somewhere. I didn’t think to look up the name before I went there, and does it really matter, beyond a certain point? The alley was on Earth, somewhere in a city, there were definitely poor people around, and it was cold for humans here. So, probably on the top half of the planet, right?
Other angels might have been more personally curious, but I’m not one who misses Earth duty. It’s not that I hate being on this plane of existence, like demons do (when they’re not obsessing over it). I’m just not comfortable being somewhere so obviously not designed for my kind. The spatial dimensions taste different. Sort of greasy and sharp-edged and hot, all at once. You can smell them on you, after a while.
They’re also sort of toxic unless you’re in a physical body, but embodiment is uncomfortable, in unique and disturbing ways. It makes angels uncomfortable and edgy, which is one reason why we always said Fear not when we met humans for the first time. They have extremely good instincts when it comes to sensing danger, and angels are exquisitely dangerous.
Unfortunately, we’re also exquisitely vulnerable on Earth, this century. I noticed the bullet just before it entered my chest. And I didn’t have enough time to move out of the way.
