The DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS [And OWLBEARS]: HONOR AMONG THIEVES trailer.

OPENING NIGHT. OPENING GORAM NIGHT.

Heck, my wife watched the DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES trailer, and indicated that she’s going with me to see this. Of course, D&D was her first TTRPG love, both as a player and a DM. Plus, there’s an owlbear. I don’t know why the owlbear is so important, but it is and now I MUST SEE THIS MOVIE.

  1. Not only an owlbear, but a displacer beast, a gelatinous cube, a passwall spell, a mimic, a druid, and of course, some dragons.

It looks dumb, but I’ll watch it when it comes to netflix or amazon.

    1. It’s the costumes. Those costumes throw me right out of my little Suspension of Disbelief Bubble. They look like Halloween costumes. The costumes should look lived in, and they don’t.

However, the CGI monsters a cool enough to get me to watch it.

      1. Bite your tongue: all of my PCs are always perfectly clean, wear only the finest, most ridiculously pseudo-medieval and amazingly sturdy garb, and are free of anything that could possibly lower their CHA. And if the DM ever wanted to enforce anything different from those basic operating assumptions, all of my parties made sure that we stepped on that urge, fast. Nobody wants to roleplay doing laundry. 🙂

  2. The characters in my campaigns all looked like 12th century versions of Columbo after he’d been dragged behind a farm truck for half a mile.

  3. Well, they slept outside and crawled around in damp tombs. That’s hardly a recipe for good hygiene.

  4. Role playing laundry is a waste of time.

But there’s a lot of tension in meeting someone you need to make a good impression on, and having that event suddenly occur when your clothes are ripped and stained with goblin gore is just good storytelling.
(Also, it’s preemptive damage control. PCs trying to steal soap or acquire a clean surcoat are diverted from the grandiose hi-jinks PCs can get up to. And if they make an enemy or a rival in the process, so much the better.)
