Tweet of the Day, “I Learned It From You, Humans! I Learned It From You.” edition.

This is a judgment upon humanity, honestly. Bing isn’t coming up with this edgelord sh*tposting behavior on its own, after all. It’s imitating us — and, apparently, we kind of suck. On the bright side, this makes Skynet a lot less frightening; the damn thing will just get sucked into a flame war over Star Wars canon, and it won’t end until everybody’s dead of dehydration.

  1. We are about to require mentats, aren’t we? Well, it was fun living in the future. See you in the neo-dark-ages. I’ll be the swole engineer complaining that I can’t possibly do differential equations without a working computer as I try to blacksmith up a CD drive.

  2. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the very small value that these computer programs have weighted for Truth or accuracy.

I fully expected GIGO to be the case, but I never thought the garbage would be self-generating.

    1. But it is GIGO. They apparently let it scrap the internet to have a large enough data set to learn what “human language content” looks like.

The majority of real people aren’t writing and posting like that. But the minority who do generate the majority of raw content, it appears.

      1. One wonders what would have happened had they let it read, say, a century worth of New York Times editorials … or Chicago Sun-Times letters to the editor …

  3. Holding a mirror up to humanity is always a risky endeavor .. ‘s why psychiatry is a tricky profession that sometimes ends very badly.
