My Mini-Review of RENFIELD.

Short version: do you like films about codependency and narcissistic relationships that are actually bloody action flicks about vampires? Then do I have a film for you.

Slightly longer version: my kid and I both enjoyed RENFIELD. It approached the hero in the flick the way you’d expect a modern movie to do so; by looking at his unhealthily toxic relationship with Dracula. It works because the talk therapy being used throughout is supplemented with good, old-fashioned Pratchettian headology*. Although I don’t think Terry Pratchett would have ever written anything this visibly gory**. Fun gory, though. Worth it!

*Understanding why the vampire is doing this to your head is good for you. It’s also good for the vampire, because then it can understand what the faces you’re making when you kill it mean.

**He’d have laughed his butt off at Nick Cage’s excellent portrayal of Dracula, though. Cage had fun chewing the scenery this part, but he never quite steps over the self-indulgence line.
