WONKA is not really what I was expecting. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this. I wonder if it’ll grow on me.
On the other hand: I guess Hugh Grant needed money really badly last year, because he sold what was left of his dignity for this one. Does that sound disapproving? – because it is not. The end result promises to be highly amusing.
After his role in D&D, I think we can safely assume that Hugh is in the “do it for money” stage of his career. His days of being the love interest are behind him and his personality doesn’t lend to a late resurgence as an action start like Liam Neeson was able to do
It…. has potential, but also the same problem as Will Smith playing Aladdin’s Genie: Challumet is Talented, but **whimsy** is a very specific trait which is needed for this character. Even Depp had that at least. I don’t see that here yet.
Hard Pass.
The people profiting from this are the same ones censoring Dahl’s works for wrongthink mindcrimes, actions the ‘star’ of the film wholly and vocally supports.
No money for them.
Plus his line delivery is…what’s worse than terrible? Gene Wilder was a genius, and while I didn’t agree with Depp’s choices they were at least memorable, young Tim here is just bland.
Chalamet is going to make a lot of money this year. Maybe not money from this film for me.
