… and calls it “Lovecraft by Way of Lifetime.” …And that’s an “Oof.” For those who aren’t aware, SUITABLE FLESH is based off of HP Lovecraft’s “The Thing on the Doorstep,” only modified sufficiently to, among other things, allow Heather Graham to remind all of us that she still only sleeps alone by choice (trailer definitely NSFW):
Yeah. Liberties were taken with the text. For the record, I don’t mind that. Well, that’s not entirely correct. It’s just that it’s so damned hard to adapt Lovecraft properly for the big screen. So much so, in fact, that you learn to accept that your best reasonable expectation is going to be something that tries hard and aims for gonzo. In this case, ‘cosmic horror meets 1980s softcore erotic thriller’ was enough for a 5/10 score from Coming Soon, which means that… expectations were reached. ‘Mediocre’ is great for a Lovecraft adaptation.
I respect a Camp movie that knows exactly what it is.
