I died well in D&D tonight. Also, hilariously.

Dying well: grabbing the princess after she betrayed us and went evil, only to be Hold Personed by my wife. I then teleported me and said princess (and the MacGuffin Ring she was wearing) into the No Saving Throw portal, which ended up destroying the undead sun that was battening on other suns. I even got to tell the evil prince (also Hold Person) in the Elvish he didn’t know I knew* that this was what happens when you break your word. A very satisfying way to end the campaign.

Dying hilariously: twenty minutes later, the guy who knows everything about this game system asks me, “Moe? Why didn’t you just Mage Hand the MacGuffin Ring into the portal? You have that psionic knack.” …And I had no good answer to give him, save laughter.

So it was fun, both ways.

*I should note that I was a giff bard. So, basically a giant cyberpunk spacer hippo-man with an 18 Charisma.

  1. Nothing wraps up a campaign quite as successfully as dying heroically while taking down the arc boss.

And it makes the denouement much simpler for the GM.

  2. So you saved the day by sending the MacGuffin Ring into the one thing that could destroy it, thus snuffing out the evil fiery orb in the sky?

Well, homage to the classics, I suppose.
