What kind of merch should I sell?

I have art, and I have a variety of places who will either make me things for an outrageous markup, or sell things for me for an even more outrageous markup. Sobeit. Everybody’s got to eat, including online store facilitators. What I need to figure out is what to sell. So far, this is my list:

  • T-shirts
  • Mugs
  • Fridge Magnets
  • Bookmarks
  • Book plates
  • Other kinds of stickers
  • Glossy prints of book cover art*?

Anything else? Assume I don’t have a budget. Because really, I do not. Neither do I have inventory space: I keep Flying Koala under my dining room table, and that includes the folding hand truck. I’m not looking for blue sky ideas generally, just anything obvious I might have missed. And, finally: nothing time intensive. Ask me for anything, except time.

Thanks for your thoughts!

*That one I have to think about a little. I have the rights to all the art that I purchase, but I like all the artists personally, but cutting them in for a nominal taste is going to increase the paperwork. Maybe I should give them permission to sell prints of these commissions themselves, and call it ‘free advertising.’

  1. So .. remember this merch needs to guide the curious to your site… and figure out whether you want to use a QR code or printed URL or just your name… and how to do that without going full metal Pigeon Forge…
