Short version: DUNE PART 2 is good, and there’s going to be a Part 3. Partially because it’s gonna make a lot of money, and partially because the situation at the end of Part 2 ain’t what I call stable.
Slightly longer version: if Dune the novel was about religion and ecology, Dune the Villeneuve movie series is about fanaticism and corruption. Don’t get me wrong: DUNE PART 2 is a great movie, with solid performances and beautiful scenes… but it’s setting its hero for one heck of a fall in the third film. Which there will be, because the movie had a big weekend and excellent reviews, on both sides of the tomato.
Anyway, it’s fun and big and takes only relatively mild liberties with the novel. Check it out.
