FunCom clarifies the religious aspects of their DUNE: AWAKENING MMO.

I don’t think FunCom was trying to start its own little jihad over its upcoming Dune MMO…

…but they certainly had to make a quick clarification on it.

I actually have sympathy for them on the topic. The religious aspects of Dune are fraught, with extra frau. Half of the stuff involving the Fremen kind of hit differently, these last twenty years or so. Trying to slide past any issues in DUNE: AWAKENING was probably a fool’s errand, but it might have worked. You never know.

  1. Hard pass for me if they’re skipping that. If they made it during the Machine Jihad during the prequels maybe I’d be interested.

  2. “Religion is icky” going up against “The Buttons Are Wrong” … and as usual, it’s the players that will suffer.

Same as it (almost) ever was.

  3. I dunno. I mean, it’s an MMO. It wasn’t ever going to be “everyone is Paul Atreides” and it would have come out goofy if it was. I feel like “Arrakis is an interesting world, and we’re going to try to present it somewhat faithfully, but your’e here for a different slice of the thing” is at least a *reasonable* approach to take.
